Amelia Island/Fernandina

One of the top resort areas in the country, is located in Nassau County, Jacksonville's neighbor to the north. Amelia Island is the name of the entire landmass, and at the same time, the name of a community on the island. Another well known community on Amelia Island is Fernandina Beach, a quaint historic fishing village. Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach provide two more distinct lifestyles and community personalities on the First Coast.

The newly developed areas of Amelia Island center around the vacation spots, where upscale resorts and hotels are clustered along the beautiful beaches. This area is home to some of the East Coast's most desirable second homes and winter homes. Following the resort trend, many golf communities have been developed on Amelia Island, many with additional amenities such as gated access, community pool and clubhouse. There are also several upscale, active adult communities on Amelia Island, appealing to the senior citizen market. 

In the Fernandina Beach area, residents have taken pride and care to restore classic historical homes to their original beauty. Many of the homes clustered near the quaint downtown area are Victorian style, with intricate gingerbread and scrollwork. Many of the larger homes are operated as bed and breakfast inns, contributing to Fernandina's growing weekend getaway spots. The shops and restaurants lining Centre Street, the area's main thoroughfare, attract tourists and locals alike.

Some new construction is available in the Fernandina area as well, including a brand new planned community called Amelia Park. Envisioned in the new urbanism tradition of the Seaside community on Florida's panhandle, Amelia Park offers a variety of traditional home styles with all the convenience and ambiance of an old-fashioned neighborhood. Amelia Island's location makes it convenient to Jacksonville International Airport and employers in North Jacksonville, as well as in southern Georgia. The attractions of downtown Jacksonville are about one hour from Amelia Island.
